Raleigh P. Nichols, 80, went home to be with His Lord and
Savior on Monday, December 29, 2014. He was born May 10, 1934 in
Jacksonville, FL to the late Raleigh & Armeda Nichols, Sr. Raleigh grew up
in the Norwood area. He enlisted in the military at age 17 and served in
the U.S. Air Force where his final duties was that of head mechanic on Air
Force One at Andrews Air Force Base.  Raleigh retired after 21 years of
service at the rank of Tech Sergeant. He was involved in his church in
Upper Marlboro, MD for many years working with the youth ministry. Raleigh
came back home to Jacksonville in 1994. He was currently a member of North
Jacksonville Baptist church. Raleigh was a loving husband, father,
grandpa, brother, friend and will be missed by all. Survivors include his
beloved wife of 63 years, Mary; daughters, Debbie (Chuck) Harling, Jan
(Rick) Canter; brothers, Hubert Nichols, Johnny Berry; stepsister, Debbie
weeks; grandchildren, Josh, Jennifer, Steffanie, Justin; great
grandchildren, Caelan, Colt, Drake; numerous other family and friends.
Funeral services will be held on Monday, January 5, 2015 at 11am in the
chapel of Cedar Bay Funeral Home, 405 New Berlin Road, 32218, with Rev.
Chris Coram officiating assisted by Dennis Felder. Interment will follow
in Jacksonville National cemetery. The family will receive friends on
Sunday afternoon, January 4 from 4-6pm at the funeral home, 714-1110. In
lieu of flowers donations may be made to the Wounded Warrior Project in
Raleigh’s name.
