Henry Lamar Howard, 81, passed away on Saturday, February
28, 2015. He was born September 8, 1933 in Jacksonville, FL to the late
George & Fannie Howard. Henry was a veteran and served in the U.S. Air
Force and was a superintendent with Jefferson Smurfit where he worked for
47 years. He was a member of the Shriners for 42 years, holding numerous
offices, with his favorite as Drill Captain of the Motorcycle Escort.
Henry was very active in First Coast Motorcycle Club. In his late
seventies, he rode the Route 66 trip on his motorcycle from Chicago to Los
Angeles. Afterward, he rode the “four corners” of the USA on his
motorcycle. Henry was a faithful member of North Jacksonville Baptist
Church, was an avid golfer, fisherman, and NASCAR enthusiast. He was
always a gentleman, gregarious, generous, caring and a much-loved family
man and friend. Henry was predeceased by his sister, Shirley Ellison.
Survivors include his wife of 57 years, Wanda; children, Joann “Hankie”
Chewning, Debbie Huffman, Otis “Bud” Howard, George Howard; 9
grandchildren; 8 great grandchildren; 7 great-great grandchildren;
siblings, Mozena Appling, Margaret Chesser, Pearl Swenson, Shepard
Ellison, Kenneth Ellison, Wayne Ellison; numerous other relatives and
friends. Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, March 4 at 12:30pm at
North Jacksonville Baptist Church, 8531 North Main St 32218, with Rev.
Chris Coram officiating. Interment will follow in Jacksonville National
cemetery. The family will receive friends on Tuesday evening  from
6-8pm at Cedar Bay Funeral Home, 405 New Berlin Rd 32218, 714-1110. In
lieu of flowers donations may be given to Shriners’ Crippled Children’s
