Mary Kate Moore, 95

Mary Kate Moore, 95, went to be with her Lord and Savior on
Saturday, March 12, 2016 after a lengthy illness. She was born May 6, 1920
in Pierce County, GA to the late Harvey Andrew Johnson and Effie Davis
Johnson. Mary K. was one of nine children, she had 5 brothers and 3
sisters. She graduated from Blackshear High School. They moved to
Fernandina Beach in 1950 and owned several businesses including grocery
stores, Bargain Grocery; a restaurant, Twin Oaks; and a dress shop, Mary
K’s Dress Shop. In 1958 they opened a department store well known to the
community as Mary K’s Dept. Store located in downtown Fernandina Beach,
FL. They retired in 1987 and sold their business, then spending much of
their time enjoying their mountain homes and apple orchard in Waynesville,
NC. Mary K. was a longtime active member of First Baptist Church,
Fernandina Beach. She held many offices and positions within the church.
Mary K. was active in the Pythian Sisters of Fernandina Beach and the
state organizations. She held the office of Grand Chief of the State
Pythian Sisters Organization. Family was always important to Mary K. from
her youth growing up in the Forks of the Hurricane Community and at the
Beulah Baptist Church where she came to know Christ as her Savior. Her
large family would all gather together several times a year to celebrate
most anything. She was a jokester and could liven up most any occasion
with her witty comments. Mary K. also worked to ensure the proper decorum
was followed on any occasion. She was delighted to cook a meal for many or
for her immediate family. Mary K. and Roscoe enjoyed spending time with
their grandchildren. She is preceded in death by her husband of 50+ years,
Emory “Roscoe” Moore; infant son, Emory and seven of her siblings.
Survivors include her sons, James R. “Jim” Moore (Jerrie) and Ronald M.
“Ronnie” Moore (Fay); her devoted sister, Bertha Kelly (Ed); brother,
Marcus Johnson; her grandchildren, Scott Moore (Terina), David Moore
(Carrie), Lynna Kay Moore Parker (Joe), James Ronald (Jay) Moore, and
Melissa Ronae Moore; great grandchildren, Price and Gavin Moore, Emory,
Eli and Natalie Kate Moore and Logan and Kylar Parker. Funeral services
will be held Wednesday, March 16 at 11am at First Baptist Church
Fernandina Beach, 1600 S. 8th Street 32034 with Rev. Jeff Overton
officiating. Interment will follow in Bosque Bello Cemetery. The family
will receive friends 1 hour prior to the service at the church. In lieu of
flowers please give a memorial to the building fund at First Baptist
Church Fernandina Beach, to Beulah Baptist Church in Blackshear, GA for
the cemetery fund, or to the N.E. FL Community Hospice-Warner Center for
Caring. The family of Mary K. would like to sincerely thank her
caregivers, who helped them care for her, Mildred Turner, Vanessa Young,
Best Friends Companion Care, the staff of Baptist Nassau, the staff of
Quality Care, Dr. Gerald Burford, and the staff at the Warner Center for
