May Arlene Varney, 80, passed away Tuesday, March 15,
2016. She was born December 24, 1935 in Atlantic City, NJ to the late
William & Marie Hughes. May had lived in Jacksonville since 1963 coming
from New Jersey, was of the Protestant faith, loved fishing and
needlepoint. She was a member of Jacksonville offshore fishing club, wrote
a newsletter for them and will be greatly missed by all who knew her. May
was predeceased by her husband of 63 years, Harry Varney; son, Lee Varney;
brother, William Anderson. Survivors include her son, Mark Varney
(Deborah); daughter, Frances Flowers (Jesse); brother, Thomas Anderson
(Christine); grandchildren, Joey Varney (Stacie), Thomas Varney, Hank
Flowers, Gwen Burdine (John); great grandchildren, Zarah Varney, Maddox,
Jonah Burdine; nephew, Tommy; niece, Tracy; numerous other family and
friends. Memorial services will be held Friday, March 25 at 11am in the
chapel of Cedar Bay Funeral Home, 405 New Berlin Rd 32218, with Pastor
Mark White officiating. Interment will be by cremation. The family will
receive friends 1 hour prior to the service. In lieu of flowers donations
may be made to Community Hospice of N.E. FL. The family would like to
thank her long time doctors, Dr. U. Carraballo and Dr. S. Lancaster and
their staff for their constant and attentive care and love. They also wish
to thank Community Hospice, Nassau group for providing such wonderful and
compassionate people for May and the family with comfort and support
