James Donald Jordan, 85, passed away Sunday, June 26, 2016. He was born October 24, 1930 in Atlantic, Iowa to the late James B. & Lela A. Jordan. James’ parents were farmers in Wiota, Iowa which is where he and his siblings were raised. He had lived in Jacksonville for the past 20 years coming here from Santa Rosa Beach, FL. James was a member of St. Patrick Catholic Church and a 3rd degree Knight of Columbus. He joined the U.S. Army right out of high school, advanced to the temporary rank of Lt. Colonel and retired as a permanent Major in 1969. James saw combat in Korea, Vietnam and Central America as an Army Ranger. After his retirement from the army he went on to become the supervisor of Carrier Control for the state of Nebraska. His greatest enjoyments in life were golf, he was an avid player; reading, he was a voracious reader. He also was a talented ceramic artist. James will be dearly missed by all. He was predeceased by his brother and sister. Survivors include his wife of 30 years, Penny; sons, James Jordan, Kent Jordan; daughter, Janet; step-daughter, Colleen Williams (Scott); sister, Debra Fitzgerald of Pensacola, FL; 5 grandsons; 1 great granddaughter; numerous other family and friends. Memorial services with military honors will be held Monday, October 24 at 11am at the committal shelter in the Jacksonville National Cemetery, 4083 Lannie Rd 32218 with Father Christopher Liguori officiating. Arrangements are under the direction of Cedar Bay Funeral Home, 714-1110.
