Donald Joseph Gagnon, 77


Donald Joseph Gagnon, 77 of Jacksonville went to be with our Lord and Savior on November 26th, 2016 after fighting a courageous battle with Progressive Supranuclear Palsy.( A form of Parkinson’s ) He will be dearly missed by his wife, family and those who knew and loved him. Donald was born in Somersworth NH on October 8, 1939. He attended St. Martin Academy, Somersworth, NH St. Francis Private School in Biddeford Pool, Maine, graduated from Somersworth High School and attended the University of NH.

Donald was married to Jacqueline A. Gagnon (Lewis) on August 1, 1959 and they recently celebrated their 57 year wedding anniversary.

Donald and his wife owned a catering business in Dover, NH and later worked 25 years as a set up man at Somersworth General Electric. He lived in Dover, NH for several years where he was a devout Catholic communicant of ST. Mary where his children attended St. Mary Academy. He later lived in Gonic, NH where he was a communicant of St. Leo Parish and served as a Eucharistic Minister. He retired from GE at the age of 57 and he and his wife moved to Palm Coast, Florida. He loved music and was a drummer for many local bands which culminated in his forming a band called “ The Aristocrats” which played for weddings, parties and many functions throughout the Seacoast area, as well as the “Atlantic Motor Inn” in Wells Beach. Don played piano throughout his life, early on by ear, and later in life continuing his musical education and learning to read music at the age of 50. He also earned the reputation of being a great dancer and a crooner raising the audience to their feet whenever he sang some of the old Sinatra standards. Don was a great musician. He enjoyed playing cards and was well known for bidding 6 in bid whist. Always true to his New England roots, he was a stalwart Boston Red Sox fan.

Donald is survived by his loving wife of 57 years, Jacqueline Gagnon, and his four children Don Gagnon, and his wife Donna, of Casselberry FL; Paul Gagnon and his husband Norman Hurley of Jacksonville, FL; his two daughters Deborah Cicerello and her husband Jeffrey of Deland FL; and Patricia Gagnon of Jacksonville, FL. He is also survived by his 5 grandchildren Karen and her husband Peter Schueller of Budapest, HU; Susie Sylvester of St. Augustine, FL; Lauri Simpson and her husband Daniel of Casselberry, FL; Kendra Davis of Eliot, ME; and Katrina Cicerello of Deland FL. He is also survived by 3 great grandsons, Samuel, Sebastian and Spencer Sylvester of St. Augustine, FL. He is also survived by his siblings Vivian Guilmette of Somersworth, NH and Priscilla Gagnon of Somersworth, NH and several nephews and nieces.

Donald is predeceased by his parents, Leo J. and Laurianna Gagnon; as well as his brother, Norman Gagnon; and his granddaughter Kayla J Davis.

A memorial Mass will be celebrated on Saturday December 10, 2016 at 11:00 am, at St. Patrick Catholic Church on 601 Airport Center Dr. E, Jacksonville, FL 32218.
