She was born February 2, 1924 in Jacksonville, FL to the late Thomas Wilbur Trout and Antoinette Geraldine Cooper Trout Grainger. Toni married her high school sweetheart, Ensign William “Bill” C. Dixon August 4, 1943, prior to his leaving for the Pacific Fleet. She attended Landon High School and Duke University. As a career Navy wife, Toni was devoted to her family and created loving homes in over 22 locations. In retirement, Toni and Bill divided their time between their homes in Balsam, NC, Keystone Heights, FL and later, Merritt Island, FL. She is best remembered for her love of and conviction in Jesus Christ. Toni lived out her faith through her involvement with her family, church family, and her many friends, sharing the Good News and providing support to all those God placed in her path. She was a Docent at the Smithsonian Institute in Washington D.C., a member of the DAR and a sustaining member of the Junior League of Jacksonville, FL. Toni was also a past president of the Navy Officer’s Wives Club, Naval Air Station Pensacola, FL, a Red Cross and Hospice volunteer, and a charter member of Fresh Start Fellowship of Keystone Heights. She was a member of Hazelwood Presbyterian Church of Waynesville, an excellent artist, cook and gardener. One family tradition was picking berries from her raspberry patch and making “Toni’s” famous raspberry jam. Her guidance, spiritual example and love live on.
