Elizabeth “Alene” Walker, 87, went to rest in the arms of her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ Monday, January 23, 2017. She was born April 9, 1929 in Live Oak, FL to the late Bill & Nora Gill and moved to Jacksonville in 1951. Two of Alene’s favorite things in life were family and fishing. She was never happier than when she spent time out on the water with the ones she loved most. Alene always had a warm hug and beautiful smile for everyone, and she touched so many lives with her kind and loving spirit. She brought joy to everyone around her, and was such a blessing to all who knew her. Her steadfast faith and love for Jesus was an inspiration to so many. To simply know her was to love her. Alene is preceded in death by her husband, James C. Walker; son, James R. “Rodney” Walker, and longtime devoted companion, Johnie E. Graham. She will be greatly missed by her loving children, Susan & Larry Dixon and Gary & Rose Walker; grandchildren, Casey & David Bruton, Amanda & Hal Smith, Rhonda Gamble, Renee & Bill Switzer, Brandy & Ernie Joyner, Shawn & Michael Ruszkowski, Heather Hughes, and Misty Walker; great grandchildren, Jordan Jenrette, Arden Smith, Garrett Bell, Lorelei Switzer, Wyatt Joyner, Logan Joyner, Allie Hughes and Erin Ruszkowski, along with numerous other family members and friends. Funeral services will be held Saturday, January 28 at 11am at Duval Station Baptist Church, 13734 Lyle Road 32218, with Pastor Jimmy Flanagan and Pastor Steve McCoy officiating. Interment will follow in Jacksonville Memory Gardens. The family will receive friends Friday from 6-8pm at Cedar Bay Funeral Home, 405 New Berlin Rd 32218, 714-1110.
