Norma Jean D’Auria, 72, of Jacksonville, FL, departed this life Sunday, February 26, 2017 with her daughters by her side. She was born May 21, 1944 in Columbus, OH to the late Norman and Christina Hess. They moved to Suffern, NY where she grew up and became a Registered Nurse at Nyack Hospital, Nyack, NY. Norma married the love of her life August 5, 1961, the late Peter J. D’Auria. After raising their family, they retired to Ocala, FL. Norma was predeceased by her grandson, Peter Obermiller. She is survived by her four daughters, Jean Crowley and Karen Obermiller (Joseph) of Jacksonville, FL; Laura Chambers (Michael) of Foley, AL and Linda Portner (Lawrence) of Stony Point, NY. She was “Nanny” to five beautiful grandchildren, Jessica and Zachary Obermiller, Jamie Leote, Steven Chambers and Jerry Crowley. Norma also leaves behind her two best friends, Pierre and Casper. Her Bichon Frise dogs were such a treasured part of her life. She is also survived by a sister, Gretchen; brother, Henry Hess; numerous other family and friends. Norma was a dedicated nurse, devoted wife, loving mother and adoring grandmother. She will be remembered for her uncanny sense of humor and quick wit. Her love has shaped the lives of those that had the honor of knowing her. She leaves us her legacy. May you always find comfort in her memory, where nothing on earth can separate you; not time, not space, not even death. A service to celebrate Norma’s life will be held Saturday, March 4 at 2pm in the chapel of Cedar Bay Funeral Home, 405 New Berlin Road 32218, with Father Christopher Liguori officiating. Interment will follow by cremation. The family will receive friends Saturday, beginning at 1:30pm at the funeral home, 714-1110.
