Timothy Paul Blackie, 68, passed away peacefully Sunday, May 21, 2017, surrounded by his loving family. He was born June 28, 1948 in Waycross, GA to the late Herbert & Iva Lee Blackie. Timothy lived in Jacksonville for the past 25 years, was a graduate of Mainland High School in Daytona Beach, class of 1966, and was a retired LCDR in the U.S. Navy. During Tim’s illustrious 26 year naval career, he was awarded the Navy and Marine Corps Medal for heroism. He was a member of American Legion Post #316 and a member of the Daytona Antique Auto Racing Association. Timothy rebuilt race cars, was his wife’s chief mechanic and pit crew, and will be dearly missed by all. Survivors include his wife of 47 years, Rhoda; daughter, Priscilla Varner (Montell); sister, Shere Blackie Leventhal (Jerry); grandchildren, Kinsey, Reagan; sister-in-law, Priscilla Packard; nieces and nephews, Jessyca Hogan (Jeff), Alexa Hogan (Shawn Melhorn), Mavric, Aubree Hogan, Timothy Moremen (Elizabeth), Joshua Moreman (Heather), Ruby, Marc and Aaron Leventhal; numerous other family and friends. Funeral services will be held Saturday, May 27 at 11am in the chapel of Cedar Bay Funeral Home, 405 New Berlin Rd 32218, with Rev. George Moremen officiating. Interment with military honors will be Tuesday, May 30 at 11am at Bushnell National Cemetery. The family will receive friends Saturday beginning at 10am at the funeral home, 904-714-1110. Jeans are the appropriate attire per Tim’s request.
