Merlene Dixon, 78, passed away Saturday, July 8, 2017. She was born August 20, 1938 in Alma, GA to the late Joseph & Etna Edgerton. Merlene had lived in Jacksonville for the past 50+ years coming from Brunswick, GA, was of the Baptist faith, loved gardening, yard saleing and working in the yard. She was a cafeteria worker at Sheffield Elementary and was known as “grandma.” Merlene lived her life for her kids, grandkids, great grandkids and will be dearly missed by all. She was predeceased by her husband of 51 years, Henry “Earl” Dixon; brothers, Edsel Edgerton, Freddie Edgerton; sister, Christine Tarrant. Survivors include her sons, Dennie Dixon (Sherry), Kenny Dixon (Linda), Ricky Dixon; daughter, Janice Gillis (Gary); brothers, Eugene Edgerton (Sybil), Benny Edgerton (Brenda); sister in laws, Linda Edgerton, Nancy Edgerton; 8 grandchildren; 15 great grandchildren; 6 great-great grandchildren; numerous other family and friends. Funeral services will be held Wednesday, July 12 at 11am in the chapel of Cedar Bay Funeral Home, 405 New Berlin Rd 32218, with Pastor Darren Wesley officiating. Interment will follow in Ferreira cemetery. The family will receive friends Wednesday beginning at 10am at the funeral home, 714-1110.
