Carl Wayne Polk, Sr., 79, passed away Monday, July 31, 2017. He was born March 10, 1938 in Wauchula, FL to the late Carl & Frances (Jordan) Polk. Carl was a graduate of Andrew Jackson High School class of 1956 and served his country faithfully during the Vietnam War with over 20 years of service retiring as a Captain / Chief Warrant Officer (W-3). He was the first Ordnance Officer of the first Marine Corps AV-8A “Harrier” squadron, VMF -513. Carl pioneered and developed much of the “Harrier” ordnance related policies, techniques, and procedures utilized by the Marine Corps today. Heretired in 1976, to work at Nes Smith Corp, eventually taking over the business and working there until he retired again. He will be dearly missed by all and was predeceased by his brother, Vince Polk; sister, Elaine Polk; grandchildren, Joshua Polk and Brendan Weiss. Survivors include his son, Carl Polk, Jr. (Lee Ann); daughters, SueEllen NesSmith, Robyn Polk; sister in law, Barbara Polk; grandchildren, Christopher Polk, Samantha Crunden (James), Katie Mappes (Sean), Jonathan Weiss, Jordan Weiss; numerous other family and friends. Memorial services with military honors will be held Monday, August 21 at 11am in the chapel of Cedar Bay Funeral Home, 405 New Berlin Rd 32218 with Chaplain Travis Jewell officiating.
