Thomas “Tom” Eugene Broward, 85, died peacefully Thursday, August 31, 2017 under the care of Community Hospice. He was born February 27, 1932 in Jacksonville, FL to the late Montgomery & Ella Broward. Tom was a member of a distinguished FL pioneer family, having lived on the same farm that was part of a Spanish land grant to the Broward family in 1816. He had a long career in law enforcement, having retired from both the Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office and the State Attorney’s Office, where he met many who would become dear, life-long friends. Tom loved hunting, fishing, his garden, his farm animals and his family. He was a proud member and past President of Houston Creek Hunt Club. Tom was preceded in death by his brother, Charles P. Broward (Mary) and sister, Agnes Batten (Tommy). He is survived by his wife of more than sixty years, Hilda Duncan Broward; daughter, Lisa J. Broward (Lee Hughes); brothers, John Edward Broward (Gwendolyn), Robert Curtis Terrell (Bonnie); brother-in-laws, Daniel Aycock (Patty), David Aycock (Wonji); numerous nieces, nephews and many life-long friends. The family wishes to thank his caregivers, especially his niece, Diane Lashley, for their care and kindness to the family for many years. Graveside funeral services will be held Tuesday, September 5 at 11am at Evergreen Cemetery Gate# 6, 281 E 44th St 32208, with Pastor Alan Patz officiating. The family will receive friends Monday from 6-7pm at Cedar Bay Funeral Home, 405 New Berlin Rd 32218, 714-1110. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations in his memory to Garden City United Methodist Church, 3057 Dunn Ave, Jacksonville, FL 32218.
