Russell Wyman Higginbotham, 81, passed away on Monday December 11, 2017. He was born in Jacksonville in 1936, to the late Theodore and Hazel Roberts Higginbotham. He was Baptist by faith and a member of Dunn’s Creek Baptist Church, Ionic Lodge # 101, Morocco Temple Shriners and Teamster’s local Union. He grew up living on a farm, and he loved the Gators and Jaguars football. He worked 24 years for Central Truck Lines and 13 years at Jacksonville Ship Yards. He is preceded in death by his sons, Michael and Curtis, brothers, Ted, Bobby, Dink and Timbo Higginbotham.; sisters, Theda Smith and Betty Ahnemiller. Survivors include his loving grandson and care giver, Daryl Coon; former wife and dear friend, Barbara “Bobbie” Sloan; daughters, Brenda Coon and Cheryl Smallwood (William); brothers, Grumpy Higginbotham (Dot); sister, Omeria Davis; and numerous grandchildren, great grandchildren; and a host of other relatives and friends. The family will receive friends at the funeral home starting at 10am Saturday. Funeral services will be held on Saturday December 16, 2017, at 11:30 am, in the chapel of Cedar Bay Funeral Home, 405 New Berlin Road, Jacksonville, with Rev Ray Turner officiating. Interment will follow in Buford Grove Cemetery, Hilliard, FL. In lieu of flowers donations may be made in memory of Russell, to St. Vincent’s Hospice Center, 4266 Sunbeam road, Jacksonville, FL. 32257.
