John Anthony Chaplauske, 52 of Yulee, FL, passed away Thursday, January 11, 2018 of a sudden illness. He was born March 2, 1965 in Jacksonville, FL, was a graduate of Fernandina Beach High School class of 1983, was a veteran and served in the U.S. Marine Corps at the time the Gulf War started. John got out of the Marines in 1994 and worked for 1st Coast Pallet Company in Jacksonville, FL. He belonged to the Marine Corps Evert Pope detachment of Nassau County, was active with the Toys for Tots and had a memorial Marine Corps pig barbeque picnic, cooked by John, James, Raul and Steven, honoring his father, Anthony “Tony” Chaplauske who also served in the U.S. Marines, and passed away in 2014. His father, Tony had started the pig barbeque and it is enjoyed by all Marines, both active and retired and by their families each year. John enjoyed hunting, fishing, his cats and a pet turkey, Henry. Survivors include his wife of 18 years, Debbie; son, Hunter Chaplauske; mother, Martine Chaplauske; brother, Steve Chaplauske (Nikie); sister, Theresa Pace (Joe); nephews, Holden Pace, Mason Pace; many other relatives in Michigan and Canada and numerous friends. John was cremated and his memorial service will be held on Thursday, January 25 at 1pm in Jacksonville National Cemetery, 4083 Lannie Road 32218 with Pastor Milton Willford officiating. Arrangements were under the direction of Cedar Bay Funeral Home, 714-1110.
