James Henry Edwards, known to his friends as Jim, passed away peacefully on April 19, 2024. Born on January 6, 1937, in Nashua, NH, Jim was the son of James Henry Edwards, Sr. and Isabelle MacDonald Edwards.
Jim led a life defined by service, faith, and love. He proudly served his country aboard the USS Saratoga CV 60 from 1954 to 1962 as a member of the US Navy, demonstrating unwavering dedication and bravery.
After his military service, Jim settled in Jacksonville, FL, where he became a pillar of his community. He shared his faith as a Sunday School teacher, imparting wisdom and kindness to all who knew him. As a Deacon, he offered guidance and support, exemplifying the values he held dear.
Jim was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Oma Jean. He is survived by his son, James Matthew Edwards (Melissa), whom he deeply loved and of whom he was incredibly proud.
In the words of John Gillespie Magee, Jr., " He slipped the surly bonds of earth... reached out a hand and touched the face of God." Jim's spirit now soars among the heavens, leaving behind cherished memories and an enduring legacy of love and service.
A graveside service to honor Jim's life will be held at Jacksonville National Cemetery, 4083 Lannie Road, Jacksonville, FL, on Wednesday, April 24, 2024. Jim will be dearly missed by all who had the privilege of knowing him.
